Today, we want to focus instead on simplifying your workout wardrobe. By reducing the amount of clothing and accessories around us, we can create more space to see what we really need—both in our minds and in our closets.

Six Steps to the Perfect Workout Wardrobe

Here are six steps to achieving the perfect workout wardrobe for you:

  1. Create Enough Space
    To build an optimal workout wardrobe, start by clarifying how much space you have available for your clothes. Get organized with your storage and give your quality workout gear the space it deserves. Empty your closet and start from scratch.

  2. Define Your Needs
    Before you start decluttering or buying new items, define your needs. What types of workouts do you do? What temperatures do you train in? What are your requirements for mobility and comfort? Write down your needs in a list to create a framework for your wardrobe. Anything that doesn’t fit this framework should not be in your closet.

  3. Assess What You Have
    Lay out all your workout clothes on the bed. Sort the items into their respective categories. Rank all items from best to worst based on your needs list. Be firm with the clothes you don’t use. If you don’t enjoy wearing them, they shouldn’t be in your wardrobe.

  4. Identify What You Need
    Only when you know your needs and what equipment you already own can you figure out what you need to add. Identify the gaps in your needs and write them down in a list.

  5. Fill the Gaps
    Based on your list of what you need, you can add new, high-quality workout clothes. Choose only items that fit into your existing wardrobe to create an aesthetic whole. If you mostly wear black leggings or shorts, continue with that. While a new, exciting pattern may seem appealing, choosing well-made items that align with your long-term taste is usually more rewarding in the end. If you want a new color to freshen up, it’s best done with smaller items like a t-shirt or a tank top.

  6. Maintain Your Order
    Once your wardrobe is filled with items you want to use, it’s important to maintain the order you’ve created. A good tip for those who easily make a mess is to use stackable plastic bins. This way, you keep things organized without constantly having to fold all your clothes.

Creating and maintaining a workout wardrobe is not only practical but will most likely make your active lifestyle significantly more enjoyable.
